Istoria
In accordance with the free self-determination of peoples, the Rusyns and West Ukrainians established a Galician people's republic in 1918. Others of them united with the Hungarian Soviet Republic of 1918/1919. Peasants revolted against the baron-landlords and the workers operated their own communes. Later the Polish and czech imperialists occupied the area. This was a clear violation of popular sovreignty. The Rusyns have always had their distinct culture, language- like Ukrainian, and religion- Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic. The situation was largely resolved in 1939 when Transcarpathia and other areas were reunited with Ukraine SSR. After the second world war, Hungary became a socialist country again. Bela Kun and Matyas Rakoczi were presidents of Hungary in 1919 and 1945 respectively. Christian Rakovsky, and later Nikita Khrushchev were leaders of Ukraine in 1919-1945.

pierogies are very good, which are popular in pennsylvania. we ask haven't you ever heard of pierogies? halupki, or "pigeons", or cabbage rolls wih meat are good too.
Shashlik or shishkabob is popular, not just in Ukraine, but many other places as well.
Sometimes they are made in catholic/orthodox churches in Pennsylvania. We call it coal area because there is so much coal. Even a town called Centralia is only a coal fire with almost no town.
This area goes from Scranton in the Northeast, west to Pittsburgh.
Ukraine also has many natural resources. Khrushchev worked as a miner when he was little. That is why he was commisioned to build Moscow Metro in the early 1930's. He was from Donbass area near Donetsk.
Lyudmila Zykina, Boris Shtokolov, and lidia ruslanova are famous Ukrainian folk singers from Civil War and later. You can hear their songs
